Ask ASKOSAW BLADE TENSIONPeriodically all saw blades, especially friction and hot saw blades, should be checked for tension and flatness. Tension refers to the internal stress distribution designed to counteract the mechanical and thermal forces encountered in operation. For example, because of the high temperatures involved, the periphery of the blade expands significantly and, if the saw blade is not pre-tensioned, will tend to adopt a wavy mode and flutter. Tensioning of the saw blades is the most important and final step in the manufacture of saw blades. In fact, it is an aspect that must be considered when purchasing saw blades, because of its importance from a safety standpoint. |
